What travel has taught me
More than 60 countries changed how I understand connection
Traveling as a Deaf person has taught me that communication is much bigger than spoken language. We connect through signing, writing, gestures, facial expression, technology, visual information, patience, and human presence.
Travel has also taught me to notice local people, culture, community, accessibility, quiet places, family needs, and the small details that can change how a journey feels.
Communication Matters
Different languages and communication styles do not have to stop meaningful connection.
Local People Matter
A destination is more than hotels. Communities, small businesses, and local perspectives shape the experience.
Accessibility Matters
Access includes information, communication, participation, physical needs, and knowing what to expect.
Pace Matters
Travel does not always have to be rushed. Rest, nature, space, and flexibility can be part of the journey too.
Deaf & accessible travel
Accessibility is more than calling a place “accessible”
Every traveler has different needs. A hotel, destination, tour, or communication method that works well for one person may not work the same way for another.
My goal is to help travelers ask better questions, communicate important needs, understand available information, and plan with more awareness before traveling.
Communication preferences
Email and writing are always welcome. You may also share preferences for captions, visual information, ASL, International Sign, simple language, extra time, VRS, or another communication method.
Access varies by traveler and place
Accessibility may vary by property, airline, destination, activity, transportation provider, country, technology, and individual need.
Important accessibility requests should be confirmed with the relevant travel provider before the journey.
Destination guides are growing
Travel knowledge built from experience, culture, and connection
Spirit Grow Shop is growing toward destination guides that combine travel planning, accessibility awareness, local culture, meaningful experiences, and community perspectives.
These guides can continue to grow as I travel, learn, build local relationships, visit properties, and hear from people who know their communities.
